Kanze Archives
About the Kanze Archives
Noh theater, established by Kan'ami and Zeami, was supported by patrons such as the shogunate and by the audience.WhileNoh has been passed down and developed to the present day by many Noh actors. At the core of this was the Kanze family, whose founder was Kan'ami and whose second patriarch was Zeami, in other words, the successive Kanze Tayu (masters of the Kanze school).
The Kanze dynasties, while preserving and passing down texts including Zeami's handwritten manuscripts, have also adapted to the changing times.
With his heart set on the future, he himself left behind texts, along with masks, costumes, and other items, creating a vast archive of the Kanze family. We have been working on this. This time, with the cooperation of Mr. Kiyokazu Kanze, the 26th head of the Kanze school, we are conducting research funded by a Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research. The project has been completed, and now the entire archive is open to the world through its publication on the web.It was.
We hope this will be an opportunity for the general public to learn about the Kanze Bunko Foundation and its World Heritage status.I hope for the further development of Noh theater.
